Part 3 of my 'Gap Year' series is a little later than I had planned it. Truth is, a lot has happened and is still happening.
In my second part I told you all about my dad accepting my choice for Australia, and me getting involved with a second organisation as the first was not able to sent me.
As I am typing this, I am with a third organisation. As if it wasn't hard enough for me to accept that I might not be going the first time, I was put trough the same rejection again. Only this time, it was harder.
I had made an appointment with the second organisation to get to know them better (and for them to get to know me) and to fill in some form to sent to Australia.
I called in two days after that appointment to let them know I wanted to go. They sent me the paperwork on Saturday, and I was saddened to see that the date on my forms were incorrect. I am planning on leaving in January or February 2014, and my forms said June 2014.
We couldn't do much about it since it was the weekend, but first thing Monday was calling them.
Sadly, I was told there were no more places available, even when said two weeks earlier, and they had forgotten to tell us. They found there was no problem in sending me in June, and didn't understand why we were making a big deal out of this. (Thing is, I want to go to school again once I come back, and will not be able to start after when I leave in June)
The next day was spent making phone calls and emailing other organisations we had found in the beginning of the process. THANK GOD, there was a new organisation I had contacted before with only one (!!!) place left. This was a week ago. I applied with them, and got my code to fill in my application forms. This was a big load of work, and when I asked for the deadline, it had already passed. This meant that I would have to get my doctor to confirm my health, write a personal statement for my new hostfamily, have my old school fill in forms about me, have someone write a recommendation letter for me and I had to get my parents to sign three different forms and they also had to write a brief statement about me. My new deadline was this Tuesday, giving me only a week to get all of the above done. I had a total of a week to fill in and write 17 different forms.
Thankfully, it all worked out with shorter nights and longer days, running back and forth and going up and down to school or the hospital.
I was able to sent all of the forms and copies in on time, and my application was confirmed! Later that day I got accepted :) This means that I was (almost) sure about leaving: My portfolio (the files including pictures) are now available for their Australian partners to see. They had to agree with everything I wrote, and if they do, I would be fully accepted!
A week after uploading all the forms, I got an email telling me that the organisation in Australia had confirmed my files! (AKA accepted!!!!)
The happiest feeling in the world was when I got an email telling me I was accepted. I have been working on this for a total of 2 months, and after working extremely hard when I was about to give up, I was happy I wasn't let down again. So much stress has been running through me in the last two weeks, but I wouldn't want it any other way now :)
I will be starting a travel blog soon, to keep everyone at home updated :)
Love, Danielle
